How to Blog for your Business

Blogging for your business is as essential for your success online as water is for fish. Many local Tucson businesses do not have a blog but it is the key for growing your business online and keeping your customer base informed about what is happening. You can also use it to grow your business as others who begin to subscribe to your blog add it to their favorites and spread the word about your business to others. Blogging can be done daily which would be best but two to three times a week is fine. Once a month is probably not enough.
One of the things many businesses do that is a big mistake with blogging is making it all about them or all about selling. A blog is really about you thinking about your audience and what is going to be interesting to them. For instance if you are a pet shop owner you would not want to blog about your special on gold fish for the week. Instead, you might relate a touching story about a young girl that you sold a gold fish to and how much it meant to her and that it was her first pet. Or the benefits of starting a fish collection and things to look out for in an aquarium. Hopefully, you get the idea.
The other thing you want to be careful about in a blog is images. A few are fine but if you overdo it the search engines are possibly going to ding you as they don’t see images so you will definitely want to use alttext with your images. Blogging can be done by anyone, the CEO, the product manager, the sales team, really anyone that has a passion for the company and loves to write and can write. You can even hire an outside source and bring them into the fold so to speak, let them get a feel for the company and hang out picking up ideas.
Blogs can also be mass produced one day a week for a week. With seasonal businesses like we have in Tucson there are times when things are slow and then times when things get crazy. It’s in the slow times that you want to blog like crazy and then set those up to be published in an orderly fashion so you don’t end up losing your audience. Blogging is all about earning an audience and then keeping them It’s like my sales manager used to say to me after I crowed about a big sale I’d made the week before, “that’s fine Jake, but what have you done for me lately”.
Be sure in your blogging to maintain a good balance with all sorts of medium. Not just text but also video, images, graphs, and charts. And if you use video set up an account at http://tubemogul.com and distribute it out to several outlets. It’s free. You can then compound the effect of your efforts.
