Big Business kicks out Hefty, Hefty, Hefty?

small business can take over big business

small business can take over big business

There’s a verse in the Bible when King Saul dies that David cries “How the mighty have fallen”. As a site dedicated to help small business I was so excited to find out that you may to have tromp through Wal-Mart (you gotta go to the previous site) to get your Kraft salad dressing. What’s wrong with making your own anyway? Being raised in Africa and now being in this tough (hahahahaha) economy just cracks me up when I go to the grocery store and see what folks continue to spend their money on. Not that I care. I just think it’s funny.

So what does this have to do with your small business and using the internet to stay in business and grow your business to levels you didn’t think possible. I get to that shortly but first the story. O.K.? In a recent article by  CNNMoney.com they report to not go nuts next time you go to the grocery store and are told to drive to Wal-Mart to get your favorite mouthwash. Shoppers are chanting “thrift is cool” and dumping the government supported corporate welfare brands.

So Mr.B-B-Que Stand Man, fire up the creative juices bag or can up that secret recipe and get your you know what out there on the internet and sell, sell, sell. Because brother local is in, big box is out and it’s time to move, move, move.  And don’t fiddle with trying to get it on Kroger’s shelf and paying rent. Get it directly to your tribe. Build your fan base and forget about everything you ever thought or learned about marketing.

The article mentioned that ” Wal-Mart recently removed Glad and Hefty-branded storage bags from shelves, replacing them with its own lower-priced Great Value brand, according to the parent companies of both products.”  Wal-Mart did reverse it’s decision but only after Hefty, Hefty, Hefty agreed to have the el cheapo bags right next door. So bottom line is big bad Wal-Mart is saying to the big boys cut your profits or pack your bags Skippy and out the door.

So what kind of items are we talking about: household products, toiletries, food. Nothing we need right? I’m not sure how we as small businesses can capitalize on this but I do know in my knower we can. We’ve heard about the shipping of the millions of jobs in manufacturing overseas and now we see that the monster stores are fighting with the monsters and so that leaves a hole for the guy with a creative idea.

There’s thousands of niches in the categories I mentioned. Go ahead let your imagination run wild. Though I think competing in the area of toilet paper could be rough. Pun intended. But what about a better shoe polish, organic herbs grown locally, a natural deodarant . I know here in East Tucson where I walk my dog Skipper thousands of pounds of fruit just fall on the ground every season. What could a entrpreneur do using facebook and creating a cause to use that resource.

Here’s my point we have been trapped between our own ears and with the demise of the present system happening around us maybe it’s time to take a second look and realize the Hefty, Hefty, Hefties in the world ain’t all that hefty if we utilize the power of social media, internet marketing and well …. people.
