How many leads did you get today?

A better question is: is your website generating new leads? In a small  survey involving companies of every size 83% declare that the website determined the outcome over their decision to engage in connecting with the company. So again the website does hold sway in the success of your online marketing effort.

Is your site SEO ( search engine optimized), does it have a built in  blog feature, a traffic capturing mechanism and connected to the major social media outlets.  Actually the response was that the site had at least some influence in their decision.

What I found interesting was that the survey was done by RainToday.com and involved more than $1.7 billion in professional services:

Accounting

Engineering

Construction Services

Human Resources

Financial Services

IT Consulting

Legal Services

Management Consultanting

Marketing Advertising

Public Relations

Training Services

This is a 15% increase over the same study in 2005.  In addition 16% said in 2005y that companies state that a companies online marketing efforts with the website as the hub have “A GREAT DEAL OF INFLUENCE” and now it is has risen to 28%. Tucson that’s almost a 100% increase. And yet I talk to “businesses” everyday that don’t have a website.

The way to see your online marketing as a package of tools with the primary tool being the website. Sort of like a carpenter would view his hammer. Yes you need a saw and other essential tools but without a hammer you are out of business. Now you may be reading this and think you are immune because you’ve been around 150 years and folks would never leave you but image is everything. And yes you may make it through this economic nightmare (which hasn’t even started – see http://allamerciangold.com) you had better be in the game. New technologies and competition is going to increase exponentially as the economy readjust. Your price for a job 3 years may become irrelevant when someone goes to YouTube and  sees a 3 minute video showing a potential or existing customeer a better way or more inexpensive way of doing things. And as the song says “another one bites the dust”.

I will give two quick examples here in Tucson in the realm of online marketing. I was calling and calling a pest control company and a chiropractor because I noticed that I could quickly and inexpensive get them on the front page of Google but they put me  off for some strange reason. Well, last week I checked and the slots I could have gotten them on front page Google are GONE and now if I were to take them on as clients it would cost 5 times the amount to get them in the same position. Things are happening very quick.

The other thing I took away from this survey is that people are now looking to the companies internet marketing on a local level for information on professional services which used to be largely word of mouth. The initial spark may still be over a beer but the phrase is increasing being “look it up online” and if your website “ain’t” right it’s not going to get the job done.  Lead generation starts at the website no matter what other tactics and strategies you are using. If a potential client is dazzled by the sizzle but gets lump of clay(static website) when they arrive to “headquarters” they are going to leave quickly. It’s at your website your visitor should be able to:

It’s like mom and dad taught  ” first impression are lasting impressions”. What is the first impression your customers when they arrive on your local website here in Tucson. Are they going to hang out in your space or move on?
